The central point of Jackson Square sits the St Louis Cathedral. A stunning piece of the city sits pristinely only blocks from Bourbon St. Murals painted by an Italian muralist, an original scripted bible, stained glass as large as houses are all part of the glory this building possesses.
In the late 1700’s a fire destroyed the original cathedral and the larger, grander building we see today was built to replace it.
While the building may look grand, it is important to note that this church brought all kinds of people together. Rich and poor were married here, dignitary children and slaves were baptized here as well. |
We thought all the stained glass was beautiful, but we also saw a cherub face in the lesions on this leper. Do you? |
