The Fall

It was a hot summer’s day, I was in my shop (that’s in my house) and the jerk of the town came in.

“It is I, the great Antonio, so how’s your sister Monico?” he said.

(He knew that she was deathly ill with small poxes.)

One day me and my sister were sitting waiting for the bus when she started coughing. We both thought it was nothing so we just sat there and waited. She kept on coughing when we got on the bus so I told the bus driver that we needed to go see a doctor. Later that day me, my father, and the doctor all went in to check on her and that’s when we found out she was very ill with small poxes.

     “She’s been better” I said.

“Well gee I hope she gets better.” he said in the most sarcastic voice he could make.

We were a poor family with barely the amount of money for food, We stopped eating lunch to try to raise the money to help my sister with her sickness.

“I am here to get my parachute fixed, I had a bad landing and some of the seams broke.” he said.

And then I saw the opportunity to end this.

“I need this fixed tomorrow” Antonio said

“Well I have so much other work to do” I said, “and it wouldn’t be fair to my other customers”

“I really need this fixed soon and you are the only one that can fix it soon enough! I will pay you anything to do it.” he said.

“Ok, I’ll help you for $100.”

“That’s pricey but I need this fixed soon, so fine.” he said. Little did he know that it would cause his demise.

Now I have the money to save my sister. I worked all night to make the seams look like they were fixed even though they weren’t. I had to string together the seams so lose that I could break it with two fingers. I knew he was to dim to check it.

I sat up all night thinking about how happy everyone would be now my sister would be healthy again. She had been sick on her birthday so we would have to throw another one for her.  We all missed the game nights that our family had.  We haven’t had them recently because she was sick.  It wouldn’t be right to have family game night without the whole family.

The next day Antonio came in to my shop.

“So Monico.” he said in an annoying voice. “I guess you fixed my parachute’s seams.”

“Oh I fixed them all right, I fixed them very well.” I said.

“Very good” he said “So, I am off” he said. He handed me the money and left not a single thank.

I didn’t get any sleep that night even though my sister would be healed and my worst enemy (everyone’s worst enemy) was going to die. I was guilty, nervous and happy all together.

The next day I got my daily paper in it I saw “The rich man Antonio killed in skydiving fall.” The deed was done I had no regrets. Nor did I rue his death.
