Today we went to Kids N Clay art studio in Stafford where the kids had the chance to make a four legged animal. They had a blast! The program was very well organized. They learned about how to work the clay and what kinds of things they needed to do to properly attach the parts of the animals. Audrey made a turtle, Spencer made a golden retriever, and Malena made polar bear. It was too much fun. Now we have to wait two weeks for them to be dried and fired in the kiln. We can’t wait to see the final product! Check back after Christmas! |
Above you can see the glazes used to paint the clay. It may not look like much now, but once fired the colours will be brilliant! |
First, the kids worked on the assembly in a step by step process. They worked with various pieces of clay, and to stand it up they rested it on a sponge. |
To attach the parts, you score the clay with a fork, then apply a slurry of water and clay and push the pieces together...then, we hope for the best! |
Glaze time! Malena painted her polar bear to reflect the ‘northern lights’, while Audrey and Spencer took a more realist approach. In the end, they all looked great, and I was surprised how well they turned out! |
