Greenhouse Effect

To the average mind, this is just a table, some plastic drop cloth and a few packets of seed.  But to the homeschool mind, this is a greenhouse.  We hope.

These are just two average planter boxes, and two above average homeschool kids (see, they are above average bc they are homeschooled—I mean have you ever seen a 4 yo yield such a big plastic shovel?)  So, one plants, and one prepares the soil.  Guess who is who?  P.S. One box is greyer because it hasn’t been watered.  I took care of that.

Plant it, Blow it,

and mark it with a “C”

And put it in the greenhouse

 for Cade and me!

Got to love how the pinky is up.  We are very high class over here at Ramseycentral.

So we planted a red/green leaf mix, baby spinach, (which all spinach is baby if you pick it when its little!) and arugula, my favorite.  Of course, at this point it should be mentioned my darlings, who have worked so hard to create this…

Won’t eat ANY of it!

And so we planted, well, she planted, and I took pictures.  And she spread the seeds carefully, and patted the soil.

She even passed inspection from ‘El Hefe” aka Harbour.  And then we were ready to close them up.

Now, it was 67 degrees today here in balmy NoVa, but...on Thursday it is going to be a balmy 34.  So, we are under an attempt at harvesting cool weather crops by making a “greenhouse” and putting it up close to the house.  The plan, the sun hits the patio all day until about 3pm.  The brick retains heat.  See where we are going here?  Well, we hope we are going someplace other than two boxes of dirt under a table on the cold winter patio—so, check back and see!!
