We have been doing some more reading this year. Here are our books, and what we think of them!
The Egypt Game: We just started this book.
Flush: A great book for the tween in your life. All about kids making a difference in the world from an ecological stand point. Carl Hiaasen delivers a great cast of characters that is for the 6-13 age. The characters are identifiable, and at time hysterical.
Warriors, Firestar’s Quest: Audrey read this book and highly recommends it as part of the Warriors series. She finished the first series and started the second, but there were gaps in the story line. This book bridges those two series, and in her words “explains a lot.” Now she is back to Midnight, The New Prophecy book 1. Audrey finished this recently. It is about feral cats on a mission to save their clans. Humans AKA twolegs are destroying their habitat through deforestization. This book is recommended if you have finished the first series. Now she is on to Moonrise.
Hank Zipper Niagra Falls, or Does it? Spencer has read two of these books, and likes them a lot. For you Mom’s out there, this is a series of books written by none other than Arthur Fonzerelli...or ‘the Fonz’—or Henry Winkler. They are good young chapter books for the 8-10 year old crowd. Spencer gets overwhelmed with big ‘Warriors’ style books, so these are ones he can conquer successfully.
Hank Zipper I Got a D in Salami the Mostly True Confessions of the Worlds Best’s Underachiever is Spencer said this was a book with a lot going on, but in the end all tied together and had an unexpected ending. He recommends this series very much and is on to book three, “Day of the Iguana”
Elephant Run this was the best book we have read so far. It was a great story about a teak plantation owner in Burma during WWII. The text was easy to read aloud, and painted a beautiful picture in your mind of elephants, mahouts, and children all of which were feeling the effects of the war. We highly recommend it.
Garden Spells is the Mom book that she just finished. I loved it too. It has a little family drama, people with issues, and a little magic sprinkled on top. Very good book. I have just started this book, The Memory Keepers Daughter
